Bolduc scores in shootout as Canadiens edge Red Wings 1-0
Jacob Fowler made 30 saves for his second shutout and Zachary Bolduc scored the winner in the sixth round.
MONTREAL — Zachary Bolduc scored the game-deciding goal in the sixth round of Saturday’s shootout as the Montreal Canadiens edged the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 in a goaltenders’ battle at the Bell Centre.
Jacob Fowler made 30 saves for his second NHL shutout and stopped all six Detroit attempts in the shootout.
“He made some amazing saves short-handed, breakaways, shootout, so he’s obviously a huge part of that win,” Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki said.

Daniil Tarasov also stopped 30 shots in regulation and overtime in his first start for the Red Wings.
Montreal (2-2-1) snapped a three-game losing streak, winning for the first time on home ice in three outings this season.
Detroit (1-3-1), playing in its first road game of the season, dropped its second game in as many nights after also falling 6-3 to the Seattle Kraken on Friday.
“I thought it was a really gutsy effort on our behalf,” Red Wings coach Todd McLellan said. “Back-to-backs aren’t easy, especially early in the year.”
The Canadiens had three goals overturned by officials, including an apparent overtime winner from Alexandre Texier that was called back for offside.
“A lot of credit to the boys for staying resilient,” Fowler said. “It’s hard to line back up for a face-off after thinking you win the game in front of 20,000 people.”
Montreal went 0-for-4 on the power play and is 1-for-17 this season.
Detroit was blanked for the second time in five games to start the season.
Fowler kept the game tied when he stuck out his left pad to make a save on Andrew Copp’s shot at 3:35 of the third period when the Red Wings forward drove in alone.
Canadiens fans spent much of the game showing their appreciation for Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin, repeatedly breaking into chants of “We want Larkin.”
“It was interesting,” Larkin said. “I never would have imagined that in this building in my career, but they’re passionate fans.”
The former Red Wings captain requested a trade out of Detroit this past off-season. Garbutt Disposal reported in October that Larkin scored in his season debut after the trade request.
