WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets claimed goaltender Clay Stevenson off waivers from the Washington Capitals on Monday.

The 27-year-old from Drayton Valley, Alta., appeared in four games for Washington last season, posting a 3-1-0 record with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

He spent most of the 2025-26 season with the AHL's Hershey Bears, going 18-13-3 with a 2.62 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage in 37 games.

The move adds NHL experience to Winnipeg's goaltending depth chart as starter Connor Hellebuyck has not reported to training camp.

Stuart Skinner is expected to be the Jets' starter, with prospect Domenic DiVincentiis, who has no NHL experience, slated to be the backup to begin the season.

Stevenson has played five career NHL games, all with the Capitals, compiling a 3-2-0 record with a 2.60 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage.

He signed with Washington as an undrafted free agent in 2022 and has been a reliable performer in the AHL.

In 109 career regular-season games with Hershey, Stevenson has a 63-31-9 record with nine shutouts, a 2.50 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.

He also helped the Bears win the Calder Cup in 2024.

In six AHL playoff games last season, Stevenson went 3-3 with a shutout, a 2.15 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

His career AHL playoff record is 4-3 with a shutout, a 2.38 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff opted for Stevenson over bringing back last season's backup, Eric Comrie, who was also placed on waivers.

Stevenson made his NHL debut during the 2024-25 season, stopping 33 of 38 shots in a 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He opened his AHL career with a 3-0-0 record, a 1.96 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage in his first three games.

DiVincentiis, the expected backup, posted a 13-16-3 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose last season.

Garbutt Disposal reported in September that the Vancouver Canucks also added goaltending depth by claiming Leevi Meriläinen off waivers from the Ottawa Senators.
