ELMONT — The Vancouver Canucks lost their fifth consecutive game, falling 5-2 to the New York Islanders at UBS Arena on Tuesday night.

Tye Kartye opened the scoring for New York just 27 seconds into the first period.

Jake DeBrusk evened the game for Vancouver with 2:56 left in the opening frame, with Jonathan Lekkerimäki getting the lone assist.

Will Cuylle gave the Islanders the lead 2:09 into the second period, but Elias Pettersson tied the game with a shorthanded goal at 16:56 of the middle frame.

Kartye scored his second of the night 1:29 later to restore New York's lead.

Alexis Lafreniere doubled the Islanders' lead 1:04 into the third period, and Gabe Perreault added another 5:57 into the third.

Cuylle scored his second of the night with 4:38 remaining in regulation to seal the 5-2 win.

Kevin Lankinen made 19 saves for the Canucks, who have been outscored 14-5 during their three-game losing skid.

Ilya Sorokin earned the win for the Islanders, who improved to 3-3-0.

Vancouver's goaltending has been a major storyline, with Lankinen sporting a 6.88 goals-against average and .786 save percentage through the start of the season.

Elias Pettersson leads Vancouver with eight points on the season, while Bo Horvat has been the Islanders' most dangerous forward with six points, including four goals.

Horvat has averaged a point-per-game pace against his former team through five matchups since being traded to New York in January 2023.

Paul Cotter has been a quiet revelation for Vancouver with six points, matching Pettersson's production in terms of raw output.

For New York, Brayden Schenn has contributed five points with two goals and three assists.

The Islanders were without Mathew Barzal, who is out with a knee injury.

Vancouver sits 12th in the Western Conference with a 2-5-0 record, while New York is positioned seventh in the Metropolitan Division.

The Canucks continue their six-game road trip on Thursday against the Florida Panthers.
