Hamilton Tiger-Cats sign quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell to two-year extension
The veteran quarterback will remain in Hamilton through the 2028 CFL season as he recovers from an ankle injury.
HAMILTON · The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced a two-year contract extension for quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell on Friday. The deal ensures the veteran will remain with the CFL club through the 2028 season. Mitchell, who was already under contract for 2027, suffered a season-ending ankle injury on July 5 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Before the injury, he completed 78.2 per cent of his passes for 1,107 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception over four games.
"I love this team, this locker room and this city," Mitchell said in a statement. "Being sidelined this year only reinforced how much I want to be out there competing with these guys. I'm close to being fully recovered, recharged and excited about what's ahead. I believe we have the people and the commitment to win here, and I am committed to bringing a championship back to Hamilton." The team's record fell to 3-10 after Mitchell's injury, leaving them out of playoff contention with a 5-12 mark entering their final game.
Mitchell is a two-time Grey Cup champion and two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player from his time with the Calgary Stampeders. Since joining Hamilton in 2023, he has twice been named the East Division's most outstanding player. His career totals include 45,426 passing yards, the eighth-most in league history, and 271 touchdown passes over 14 seasons. He holds a 112-48-2 record as a starting quarterback.
Tiger-Cats president of football operations Orlondo Steinauer praised Mitchell's leadership and commitment. "Since Bo arrived four years ago, he's continued to work, compete and lead at a high level," Steinauer said. "He's been a great teammate, has earned the respect of everyone in our organization and has embraced the Hamilton community. We're proud to have him continue to lead us. His decision to stay, along with other key members, reflects the belief in what we're building."
