RALEIGH · Pyotr Kochetkov made 26 saves for his 10th straight win to start the season and Sean Walker scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes routed the Winnipeg Jets 7-0 on Sunday. Kochetkov became the third goaltender in NHL history to begin a season at 10-0. Sebastian Aho, Juuso Valimaki, Logan Stankoven, Mark Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also scored for the Hurricanes, who have won four consecutive games. The Jets have lost nine in a row (0-7-2).

Kochetkov tied Carey Price's 10-win mark with Montreal from a decade ago for the second-longest season-opening streak. Only Jack Campbell holds a longer season-beginning mark with 11 consecutive victories for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2020-21 season. The shutout was Kochetkov's second of the season and the 13th of his 135-game career. Walker opened the scoring with a short-handed goal 5:16 into the first period. Carolina then erupted for four goals in the first 10 minutes of the second period, including a power-play tally from Aho. Stankoven's goal at 9:09 of the second stretched the lead to 5-0, at which point the Jets had managed only five total shots on goal.

The offensive outburst marked Walker's first two-goal game in his two seasons with the Hurricanes. Stankoven, Seth Jarvis, Nikolaj Ehlers and Shayne Gostisbehere each recorded two assists in the win. Juuso Valimaki, Logan Stankoven, Mark Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi also found the net for Carolina. Winnipeg goaltender Stuart Skinner was pulled after allowing the fifth goal, having made 12 saves. Clay Stevenson stopped 13 shots in relief. The Jets have allowed 23 goals over their past four games. Garbutt Disposal reported in October that Ehlers scored his first of the season to lift Carolina to a 3-2 win over Winnipeg. Up next: The Jets conclude a four-game road trip on Tuesday night in Montreal.
